A Slasher Theater Weekly Top 10: Horror Novels

This weeks top 10 is for those horror fans who do just a little bit more than sit in front of the TV watching movies all day (not that there's anything wrong with that). Horror first began in books by the masters H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe. So, here you go, the Top 10 horror novels...

10. It by Stephen King
This massive book takes you to a place of true fear in its most primal and undying form: Clowns, and more importantly, the unknown.

9. The Shining by Stephen King
A truly scary book about a haunted hotel and the winter caretaker who slowly loses his mind inside of it. The book has a lot more to offer than the film and is definitely worth a read.

8. The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker
The book that inspired Hellraiser and the most evil group of demons there are: The Cenobites

7. Pariah by Bob Fingerman
A new spin on a classic zombie tale. This is the type of book you'll stay up all night just to finish.

6. Dracula by Bram Stoker
The most classic horror book there is. The original vampire tale that is still being adapted into films, video games, and even other books to this very day.

5. The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
As horror fans, we've all seen The Exorcist, so why not read the book? The novel's ending is a bit more religious friendly and very different from that of the film but it still makes for a very good read.

4. Let The Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
A Swedish book that inspired what is arguably the greatest vampire film ever made. It is a love story with a horror twist to it.

3. John Dies at the End by David Wong
This book, written by Cracked.com's David Wong, is probably the most unknown book on this list. However, it is also one of the best books on this list. It is a sci-fi/horror book that will take you on a strange, twisted journey through space and time and leave you terrified by the end. An incredible read.

2. Carrie by Stephen King
The story of a lonely outsider tortured by her heartless classmates. Carrie is a wonderful book with an amazing ending that is so well-written and compelling that you'll probably finish it in a couple of hours because you simply can not put it down.

Well, here it is, the scariest book I have ever read...

1. Pet Semetary by Stephen King
Reading the summary of Pet Semetary or seeing the movie simply will not do it. To understand how utterly terrifying this story is, you have to read the book. It is so much more than an old cemetery that brings dead things back. To be honest, I can't even accurately describe how scary this book is, so you'll just have to go out and read it for yourself.

Check out the poll in the sidebar to vote for next week's Top 10! Thanks for reading!
